A Peek into the Present and Future of Soap Packaging

10/31/2017

That Pastor who made fun of Wright brothers and told them that there could not be any more inventions didn't know that he judged an African elephant, only by its tail.

It was after the airplane was invented that we saw the dawn of space age and information technology age.

Likewise, custom soap packaging is not going to remain stagnant; it will change a lot and we will see the dawn of new soap packaging age.

This blog post is a meek attempt to understand that age and let the readers help to see how custom soap boxes are today and how they will be tomorrow.

Let us have a look:

     1. Where Do I see Soap Packaging?

Alright, let us first have a look at the present day and understand different types of soap packaging that is being done.

  •  Candy Wrapping

Well, this might be the junction of present and future. However, candy wrapping of the soaps is a 21st-century reality.

The soap boxes are soon going to be either obsolete or entirely rewired. Lovin' Soap blog develops a better understanding of contemporary soap packaging. Amanda Gail, a soap enthusiast, writes this blog post about soap packaging ideas and stuns us with how good her soaps look wrapped in parchment paper. This candy packaging might not be as safe as corrugated fiberboard, but it still has its own charm.

At least, it will be not as expensive as cardboard packaging and it will manage to protect soap from natural stimuli.

  • Vintage Style Boxes

Some say that vintage is old, but I say that vintage is a fashion that never gets old and that you can use after the turn of a decade.

Here, this blog by Packly shows us how vintage is another word for hot and how vintage cardboard boxes style can be used to make good customized soap boxes.

Well, if I am asked to decide it on merit, I will choose a soap packaging done in vintage boxes.

Why?

Because the biggest principle of selling something is to impress the audience and to impress the target customers, you always need some competitive edge.

Competitive edge cannot be something which is so common and easily available; it is always something rare and unique.

Rare and unique is exactly what vintage soap boxes are. They have a certain magic and charm to them, and this is why I believe they will sell like hotcakes.

  • Design and Patterns

The design is kind of my Achilles's heel; I believe customers are also easily attracted by the design and patterns of beautifully done soap boxes.

The design thing is not that easy to understand unless you first know how to subtly do this. If you overdo the design, it is overkill. Katelan Cunnigham from Lumi Blog knows the secret and she believes that a pattern whether it is funky or minimal or in any other way, will easily attract the target customers and drive them to check the product for once, if not buy it immediately.

The patterns that Katelan mentions are of very diverse quality, type and impact. For example, some people are in favor of using embellishments on the packaging; why not instead print the embellishments such as ribbons or laces on the packages.

Katelan seems to be impressed by laces, dotted designs, minimalist patterns and elemental pattern. The blog post is full of rich ideas and examples. I would say it is a must-read for those who want to understand where the contemporary soap packaging exists and what might be the point from where it will take off to land in future.

     2. What might be the Future of Soap Packaging?

Well, the candy wrapper packaging for soaps is not a future thing, it is already happening, but it gives us an idea of where future packaging is headed to.

However, it is not the only example of futuristic soap packaging. Here, I am going to share with you the kind of soap packaging which is way more ahead of candy wrapper packaging.

Kate Bertrand Connolly gives us an example of the futuristic customized soap boxes. She mentions how entrepreneur Dave Nowacek comes with an idea of a soap box which is all in one.

He wanted to shave in showers, which was not possible considering that the market of soaps and shavers was not as advanced, liberal and modern as Dave. So, Dave decided to come up with his own solution. This is what he calls Dave's Shower Shave.

The product contains one soap, one mirror, scented card-stock sleeve and a suction cup to make sure that you can easily stick it to the wall.

Now:

This is not future, this is happening in present, but this is actually the future of soap packaging.

Lest we forget, one of the biggest goodies of good packaging is offering the people right to use the packaging to its maximum. This packaging and the product is of a nature that people would love to use both for a long time.

However:

Usability is not the only big feature of the future's customized soap boxes; they also have to be aesthetically rich. Let us consider the example of Art Nouveau Soap Packaging.

Shane, an avid soap lover and packaging enthusiast comes with the idea of transforming soap boxes into pieces of art. She loves Art Nouveau and she has a thing for natural themes. She thought to try those themes and that art on soap packaging and the result was marvelous.

What she created, were art pieces and not ordinary soap boxes. How would you like to have your custom designed soap boxes with images of trees, women, and flowers: or simply mother nature on them?
I would die to get such boxes. While technically, they are not future soap boxes, theoretically they are. Soap boxes were destined to see some art on them and it never happened. Well, if not yesterday and today, it is supposed to happen tomorrow and we will enjoy such soap boxes with strikingly beautiful art in coming years and decades.
